CS2 knife trade up: five Coverts in, one knife or glove out
Since Valve's update of 23 October 2025, five Covert (red) skins from a case craft one item from that case's knife and glove pool, every time. Five StatTrak Coverts give a StatTrak knife. This page puts every case side by side: the pool, the odds per item, and what the five cheapest Coverts cost right now. Prices as of 2026-09-02, updated hourly.
Every case, cheapest ticket first
Ticket is five times the case's cheapest Covert ask across Skinport, CSFloat and Skins.com. Odds are one over the pool for a same-case contract. The last column is the cheapest and priciest gold item in that pool at any wear, so you can see the range you are rolling for. Open a case for its full pool with each item's odds.

A worked example, from today's prices
Take the Kilowatt Case. Its cheapest Covert right now is AWP | Chrome Cannon at €19.67, so five of them are a €98.35 ticket. The case's pool holds 12 knives, so any one of them is a 1 in 12 shot, 8.3%. The cheapest gold item in that pool lists at €33.15 and the priciest at €135. Whether the one you land is worth more than the ticket is the roll; the range tells you what you are rolling for before you commit.
One catch: the cheapest Covert is usually its worst wear, and five Battle-Scarred inputs land a Battle-Scarred knife. Put your real floats into the trade-up calculator to see the wear you would get.
How the odds work
Every input carries one fifth of the odds and hands it to the case it drops from. Five inputs from one case put the whole contract on that case's pool, and each knife or glove in the pool is drawn at even odds: a pool of twelve is a 1 in 12 shot at any one of them. Mix cases and the odds split by count: three inputs from one case and two from another is 60/40 between the two pools. A Covert that drops from two cases splits its fifth between them.
StatTrak changes the pool, not the rule. Five StatTrak Coverts draw from the case's knives only, because gloves have no StatTrak version. Five regular Coverts draw from knives and gloves together. You cannot mix StatTrak and regular inputs in one contract.
How the output float works
The knife's float is not the average of your five floats. The game normalises each input to its own float range first (a 0.15 on a skin that runs 0 to 1 is not the same as a 0.15 on one that runs 0.10 to 0.70), averages those normalised values, and maps the average into the knife's own range. So five inputs that sit low in their own ranges land a low knife, whatever their raw numbers say. The float and wear guide has the ranges; set your exact floats in the calculator to see the wear you would get. Doppler and Gamma Doppler outcomes also carry a phase the contract does not let you pick; the Doppler phase table shows what each phase is worth.
What it costs, honestly
A knife trade-up is a one-way bet on a case's pool. The ticket is the cheapest way into that pool today, and the range next to it is what the pool's items list for at any wear. Most pools hold items that list below the ticket as well as above it, which is why this page shows a range and not a promise. Price the exact contract before you buy anything: the calculator values every outcome net of fees and only shows a number when every leg has a real price.

Questions
Can you trade up to a knife in CS2?
Yes. Since Valve's update of 23 October 2025, five Covert (red) skins in a trade-up contract give one knife or one pair of gloves from the rare pool of a case those skins drop from. It is the only way to get a knife or gloves without opening cases or buying one outright.
Which skins give which knife?
The case decides, not the skin. Every Covert belongs to one or more cases, and the contract draws from that case's knife and glove pool. Put in five Coverts from the Operation Breakout case and you can only land a Butterfly Knife, because that is the whole pool. Every case's pool is linked in the table above.
What are the odds of a specific knife?
One over the size of the case's pool, when all five inputs come from that case. Each input gives its case one fifth of the odds, so three inputs from one case and two from another is a 60/40 split between the two pools, and the item is then drawn at even odds from the chosen pool. StatTrak contracts draw from the knives only.
Does the float of my five Coverts matter?
Yes, and not the way most guides put it. The game normalises each input's float to its own range first, averages those, then maps the average into the knife's range. Five inputs that sit low in their own ranges land a low knife; the raw average of the five floats is not the answer.
Can you trade up to gloves?
Yes, with five regular Coverts from a case that has gloves in its pool. Gloves have no StatTrak version, so a StatTrak contract never gives gloves; it gives a StatTrak knife from the case's knives.
How much does a knife trade-up cost?
Five Coverts. The ticket column is five times the case's cheapest Covert ask today, the least you can pay to enter that case's pool. It is a real listing you could buy right now, not an average.
